![]() ( 1 ) After leaving the teleportation chamber, you are gently coaxed out of the hospital and encouraged to find a place to stay. Maybe you've had time to check out your A5 app. Maybe you're just settling in. It's cloudy, overcast, cold -- you'll want to seek out someplace warm. Also, your device is beeping. A lot. It would look better on my floor. 10/10 would ride it into the sunset. This user thinks you're attractive. u up? 🍆 ( 4 ) Once you figure out that the robots have been hacking your devices, it's no easy feat to track one down and demand they stop. "So The Augur wills!" they wail in a monotone. "So it is done!" Any attempt to actually contact The Augur and get back into the hospital will be met with beefy robot bodyguards, who suggest taking a gentler approach to fix your devices. If you know what they mean. Wink. (This is your overt kink prompt. Please label any threads accordingly.) Note: All prompts are optional. The theme for this TDM is "malfunctioning devices." They can be fixed by indulging in the squares on your cards. For the sake of the TDM, you can use one of the pre-generated examples or a wildcard from the kink list. This can be used as a free bingo square completion once you have been accepted into the game. Players are welcome to wildcard their own TDM prompts; we only ask that you try to stick to the theme. shining shimmering splendid? | hope this is okay!
it's probably for the best he doesn't reach for his blaster; max is unarmed and not looking for a fight, but she's definitely on edge. both her hands are held up as she approaches, not too close, but close enough for him to see her a little better. ]
Yeah, so am I. [ her eyes focus on him and there's a brief flash of recognition when she sees his face, but she doesn't call him by name yet. who knows if he remembers where they'd been? ]
it's perfect also hello c:
She's even going so far as to show him her empty hands, so he can do the same, though he's not putting the flashlight down he's spreading his arms out slightly, holding it loosely to show that it's the only thing he's brandishing, and even that's not pointed directly at her. He doesn't want to get off on the wrong foot here if he can avoid it. ]
Sorry, I guess I should have knocked?
[ BB-9's peering around Poe's legs, quiet for the moment, but something about the tilt of his head definitely looks curious. ]
hi! c: she knew him in another game.
On what door? [ it's sort of a joke, but not really, since the structures she's seen so far tend to look more ruins than buildings. ]
yay for awkward times ahead
What else can a person do when they're thrown into an impossible situation? ]
I don't know about you, but we haven't found much of anything useful in any of these buildings yet. It seems like whoever lived here before must have just packed up and left a long time ago.
[ There's no signs of a struggle, not that he's seen. No scorch marks, no suspicious holes in the walls or stains, it's just like the people that were here vanished. Maybe kind of like how they appeared. It's hard to say. And the local robots aren't exactly helpful. Still, all things considered this could be a whole lot worse. He doesn't feel like he's in a thinly veiled prison, for one thing. Or a not-at-all veiled prison. No one's tried to stop him from going anywhere yet, aside from turning right back to the hospital that he unceremoniously ushered out of several hours ago. ]
can't wait!
I haven't been looking that long, but that's about the conclusion I've come to, too.
[ she's noticed the same lack of struggle he has, along with a lack of concern for radiation or significant destruction - everything she's seen thus far appears to be in an advanced state of disrepair, but there's not a clear reason why. all she's heard is that they were brought here to help restore it. she's been doing her best not to think too hard about how they're meant to restore it. ]

[ There's no way to know for sure. The robots haven't been giving up any answers, when he's been able to pin one down at all, and he has no way of prying anything out of them, even with BB-8's help. But he's too stubborn to give up too quickly, even if he's recognizing that figuring out exactly where they are and why they're here is probably going to be more of a long term project than something they're going to figure out in a day or two.
Which is just his kind of luck lately. ]
So where did they drag you in from?
[ This isn't his first time being unceremoniously dropped off onto an alien planet. So he's taking it about as well as could be reasonably expected. ]
no subject
Somewhere else that decided I needed to be there more than I needed to be at home.
[ she'd disagree, that much is clear in her tone. ]
It was a little like this, but a lot more populated. [ which, actually, could be said about her home as well, but seattle in 2021 was significantly lacking in technology due to the pulse and it being a good century behind new amsterdam. there were still people who liked experimenting on people for kicks, though. on that note, she's pretty sure she already knows the answer to the question she's about to ask, but it's not going to leave her mind until she does. ]
It was called New Amsterdam. [ she gives him a once over, eyes lingering briefly on his chest, looking for anything that might be glowing blue. ] Does that sound familiar to you?
no subject
He shakes his head at the name. It's not one that he's heard of before, no, but just considering the way she's looking at him he figures she must have a reason for asking. ]
No. I was in a place called Duplicity before this. It was a lot bigger, not abandoned, but we were stuck in that one city. As far as I can tell there's nothing stopping us from leaving this one if we wanted to. [ He glances back at BB-8. ] It doesn't look like there's much out there though.
[ Nothing close, at least. ]
My name's Poe, by the way.
no subject
she bites back the automatic urge to tell him she knows when he tells her her name - she's not sure if the place he's just described was his home or if he's as familiar with unintentional world jumping as she as at this point, but one that is clear is he's not the same version of himself she'd met. ]
I'm Max. [ there's a beat as she debates whether or not to even tell him this, but she decides she'd rather know than not know if the shoe were on the other foot. ] I asked because I think I met you there.
no subject
I see.
[ It's been a while since he's heard any mention of someone who knows who he is, who met him despite the fact that he has no memory of it. Long enough that he's almost forgotten about the previous incidences, that he's only heard about second hand through people who stayed while he vanished and returned. He's trying not to think about that too hard now, wondering if he's just going to be another occurrence on that list.
It's never sat well with him, but what can he do about it? ]
I mean, I believe you. It's not the first time I've heard of someone meeting a different 'me,' but it's always weird. As far as I know no one seems to know for sure if it's a memory thing, or if we're just from different... timelines? [ This is not his area of expertise, though it seems perfectly normal to some people he's met. ] That stuff makes my head hurt.
no subject
Yeah, I'll bet. [ her eyes narrow a little as she thinks about what he's just said; it doesn't sound like something that happens when you're in the (relative) comfort of your own home world. ] I take it Duplicity's not where you were originally from either?
no subject
I'm originally from a moon called Yavin 4. I don't think we're even in the same galaxy.
[ It's hard to imagine anyplace like Duplicity, or this one, for that matter, existing in his own, even far out in Wild Space where there was a lot still uncharted. He feels like there would have been something recognizable. Maybe it's just a gut feeling he's got. Either way, as long as he doesn't have any frame of reference it's impossible to know exactly where he might be for sure. ]
What about you, where did you come from?
no subject
[ and she's not only not seen much of space, but for the first half of her life she'd grown up in a government facility so she's only so familiar with earth, either. she's more knowledgeable about it than others, but not nearly enough to know what to expect in this place, especially since every new place she gets whisked to seems to have its own set of rules. ]
What were you looking for? Somewhere to crash?
no subject
[ That makes it sound like he knows what he's talking about. He sort of does. A side-effect of being stuck within the bounds of a fairly restrictive city was having a lot of idle time that he had to fill up somehow. And he would have been curious anyway about this apparently fairly populous, barely space-aware planet that he's never even heard of before. It's kind of fascinating.
But her question brings him back to their current situation. ]
Mostly just looking for answers. [ Not very successfully, obviously, but not for a lack of effort. He shrugs one shoulder. ] I guess we'll need a place to sleep eventually too. I wasn't too worried about that since BB-8 can keep an eye on things while I'm out, and one dusty couch is probably as good as the next.
[ So far the biggest threat he's been able to identify is the possibility that a roof might collapse in on them, but for the most part things seem to be holding together, if just barely. ]
no subject
[ max hasn't been to either - after the emp pulse that had plunged the US into bankruptcy, resources had been scarce all over, but you were more likely to find them (and, more importantly for her, be able to fade into the background) if you were in a city. she'd bounced around a few cities and states before settling in seattle, but had stuck mainly to the west coast in hopes of finding the siblings who had escaped with her.
she huffs with mild laughter herself, now. ] Yeah, I'm not having much luck with that, either. [ she doesn't sleep much, but finding somewhere to regain her bearings seems like a good idea. ] But I was also thinking along those lines, if I can find a building that looks less likely to cave in on my head. [ she's unlikely to be getting much sleep, though; she doesn't like to even in the best of situations.
at the mention of bb-8, she glances around him at the orange and white ball who appears to have been listening in on their conversation. ]
Is that BB-8?
no subject
[ And state, which seems like an odd method of naming things, but who's he to judge? ]
There are some buildings that look better than this. Some of them even have electricity, but still not a lot in the way of furnishings. At least we're not all crowded too close together, so it shouldn't be hard to find your own space.
[ So far, at least. Who knows how many people they plan on bringing in though. There are a lot of questions, and the longer they stay here, the more get added to that list. Not that there weren't plenty back in Duplicity, and at least here there's not an overbearing authority to tell them where they're allowed to live. And with who. There's no apparent structure here at all.
BB-8 trills a greeting in response to the question, speaking for himself as usual even though very few people understand him. He's learned a lot about human gestures and tones from Poe over the years though, which makes him a lot easier to understand than the average droid that's limited to Binary. ]
That's him. He's an astromech droid, he's basically my co-pilot. He only speaks in Binary but he understands quite a few languages. [ He frowns, thoughtful. ] You've never seen him before?
[ When she knew the 'other' Poe. As many times as he's been dragged back and forth, he's at least been lucky enough to have always had BB-8 with him. ]
no subject
Yeah? That's still something, at least. [ if there's water to get going too, all the better. furnishing is something she's concerned about on a milder level, but a couch or bed isn't gonna be much use to them if they can't find food or water. or at least water, presuming they can go back and pilfer from the hospital, which she isn't above doing.
the droid in question earns a smile from max when he trills a hello and she waves in response. her attention's drawn from him when poe asks about the other him and she shakes her head. ]
We were all pulled from wherever we were and spent some time in labs before we were broken out and let out into the city. [ she doesn't like thinking about how long they could have been in said labs, but it was evidently long enough for her hair to grow back to shoulder length after having been shaved, if his hair when she'd met him was anything to go by. ] I don't think they were all that considerate of companions.
