TDM 001: TFLU

( 1 ) After leaving the teleportation chamber, you are gently coaxed out of the hospital and encouraged to find a place to stay. Maybe you've had time to check out your A5 app. Maybe you're just settling in. It's cloudy, overcast, cold -- you'll want to seek out someplace warm. Also, your device is beeping. A lot. The tech on the island works, it just doesn't work right. You can't seem to send a message to the correct person. It's time for... Texts From Last Universe ( 2 ) What's this? Your bingo card has just been beamed to a stranger's inbox...?! ( sample A5 cards -- NSFW, may contain triggering content, please feel free to use/ignore as you see fit) ( 3 ) And now you're receiving messages from other users that they don't remember sending: Nice shirt. It would look better on my floor. 10/10 would ride it into the sunset. This user thinks you're attractive. u up? 🍆 ( 4 ) Once you figure out that the robots have been hacking your devices, it's no easy feat to track one down and demand they stop. "So The Augur wills!" they wail in a monotone. "So it is done!" Any attempt to actually contact The Augur and get back into the hospital will be met with beefy robot bodyguards, who suggest taking a gentler approach to fix your devices. If you know what they mean. Wink. (This is your overt kink prompt. Please label any threads accordingly.) Note: All prompts are optional. The theme for this TDM is "malfunctioning devices." They can be fixed by indulging in the squares on your cards. For the sake of the TDM, you can use one of the pre-generated examples or a wildcard from the kink list. he’s never seen that kind of creature before and it certainly does make him halt, on his way to an errand.

vidar, when he talks with his mask on, has a tuned voice that sounds like a robotic drone. ]

Good day. You look very cozy up there.

[ Though Kurt is used to being singled out for his appearance, usually this comes with a way of being able to tell if the person is joking, or cruel, or merely curious. Given the mask and the electronically altered voice, it takes him a moment to decide whether or not to respond. He looks down at the newcomer, his tail waving thoughtfully behind him. ]

Ah, thank you. I think. [ He glances at their surroundings. ] It's a good way to see what's going on. Which is.. not much.

[ he gives a thoughtful noise, an upbeat drone from his mask. ]

Maybe from a higher vantage point, we’ll see more interesting things.

I’m on my way to the hangar. You’re free to come with, if you’d like.

[ That immediately earns all of Kurt's attention. He's piloted his fair share of aircraft; the mention of the hangar lights up a little hope that he might be able to find a way home. ]

Oh, there's a hangar? [ He leaps down from the wall, landing easily and straightening up again. He studies his new companion more closely as he approaches. ] Is there anything functional there? Anything we can use?

My mobile suit is there.

[ he sounds dubious as he adds this last bit — ] I’m told it’s fully functional, but we can’t take it in the city. Which is fine, but how they’re able to sustain it, I’m not sure. It’s a rather demanding piece of equipment.

[ ah, but — ] The cockpit, unfortunately, isn’t made for two people. In case you’re claustrophobic.

[ The closet Kurt has come to riding in anything remotely like a mobile suit is a refitted Sentinel, and he's somewhat reluctant to repeat the experience. He looks thoughtful but not especially disappointed at learning that it won't be the escape option he's hoping for. Just another obstacle to overcome. ]

Ah. Well, it would be good to see it, anyway. And the hangar. Maybe, as you said, it will be better vantage point.

I'm Kurt, by the way. [ He holds out his hand automatically, then pauses when he realises that two fingers and a thumb, as well as soft fur and leathery pads across his palm, might be slightly startling to his new companion. He starts to withdraw, a little awkward. ]

[ he certainly was surprised to see the blue hands, but then again, it’s to be expected with the rest of his form, isn’t it? not quite human.

all the same, at the time kurt extends his hand, vidar also has done the same, and now he’s left him hanging by starting to withdraw.

vidar pauses, and switches it to a high five instead. ]

Is this better?

[ c’mon buddy let’s high five. ]

[ Oh no, now things are awkward. Kurt hesitates for a moment, then gives him the high five. Can't leave a guy hanging, after all. He grins sheepishly, glad that blushes don't show through his fur. ]

Sorry, I suppose it's been a long day.

[ awesome. he gives him a spirited high five. he’d be smiling if it weren’t for the mask. ]

No problem.

..... I’m guessing most people aren’t so kind to your appearance. A certain wariness is to be expected.

But we high fived instead, so there’s no harm done. I can’t claim to be the best of people, but I’ll certainly try.

That's very much appreciated. As is the high five. Or.. high three. [ Kurt lifts his hand briefly and grins at Vidar. He can't resist an easy punchline. ]

Really, it's not so bad, these days. Or maybe I've just become better at charming people into liking me anyway. [ He winks, then gestures ahead of them. ] Come, Herr Vidar, lead on to the hangar.

[ ‘herr’? oh, interesting. ]

A certain level of charm is much appreciated.

[ and he’s not one to turn it down.

the walk there is easy, at least, with the city barely even having anything at all. ]

I’m really disappointed at how boring this place is. Hopefully that’s temporary.

[ Kurt makes a thoughtful noise as he lets his gaze drift over the ruined buildings as they walk past them. ]

Boring is one thing. I'm starting to worry about the lack of resources. I haven't seen anything besides the hospital building. Nowhere to sleep, nothing to eat -- if we're attacked, we'll be vulnerable. And who knows who or what is in control of this place. These things -- [ He raises his arm, indicating the bracelet on his wrist. ] -- this is all very strange, don't you think? It feels like some kind of.. experiment. All these tasks and.. rewards.

If you are correct, and they need us for the experiment, we won’t be left for dead. There are many ways for people to comply. The A5 is just one such incentive.

Otherwise, we’ll have to make do with what we have and rely on the goodwill and experiences of people around us.

[ then again, vidar is lucky in that he can actually live inside his gundam, even if he’d rather not. but he’s much too paranoid to leave it out in the open. ]

Though I have to admit, I’m not the most forward person when it comes to sex and intimacy. But this place makes it seem like such a necessity.

[ It's an odd conversation to be having with a stranger while walking through a ruined city, but Kurt has had far weirder experiences. And it could be worse, he supposes. Still, he has to clear his throat a little to get around an instinctive hesitation. ]

Well, as you said, perhaps -- hopefully -- it won't be necessary.

Your mobile suit -- you said it was functional? Do you think it would be possible to use it to get away from here?

[automatized]

[ a pause as he thinks over his words. ]

If by ‘from here’, you mean into space itself — ordinarily, yes. But only for the pilot. If you mean as transport — yes, certainly. We’ll do a recce and come back. Hopefully we don’t run into anything troublesome.

As for whether or not it is as functional as they claim it to be, I’ll have to run a few more tests with it, but it shouldn’t take long. In general, I always make sure it’s well-maintained.
