TDM 016 & 4th WALL EVENT: NO WALLS BETWEEN US

TDM 016 & 4th WALL EVENT: NO WALLS BETWEEN US

00. An Arrival and a Broken Wall?!

You should be coming out of the water, the Nameless Island's own inherent energy drawing people in. It's like being suspended between realities and abruptly pushed from behind through a rift in dimensions. It may make you sick, or that might be the motion of the ocean, lifting you to the surface and carrying you to shore.

Waterlogged and covered in sand, new arrivals should be greeted by robots who welcome them with towels and bracelet devices. The A5 card already loaded up, and if you don’t manage to get away from them quickly enough, they should usher you toward the Laid Bare Spa, where new arrivals will be offered free massages, a sauna, hairstyling, and their clothing may come up permanently missing. But you should be given a complimentary towel to leave with if needed!

Should. That’s how things are for newbies - and maybe today, some newbies will arrive the usual way. Others might be surprised to hear that there is another "you"... already here! If and when you finally meet this other "you," there's simply no way to agree on who the so-called real version is. Your histories may be the same or they may be wildly divergent, but those little differences don't change the fact that you are who you say you are. Some islanders might even find themselves running into a much older or younger version of themselves. Duplicates and doppelgangers, you say? People who look and sound familiar but are just a little bit off? What strange anomalies have washed up from the ocean!

On the other hand, maybe you’re not new here at all, or so you think. You’ve definitely been on this Island for months already. You can't exactly remember what you were doing here before, but you have the modest home and personal effects to prove that you existed. You’ve always been someone who greets new arrivals at the shore. You know very well how things work on the island, and how many of the buildings are abandoned and in dire need of repair. You know that beyond the city lingers a thick fog that obscures much of the wilderness from view. Wander too far into this fog, and you will find yourself mysteriously looping back to where you began, your memories of what you were doing and how you got there erased. You know all of this.

You’ve already claimed a place to live in the now, whether a rundown apartment in the City, a tent on the beach, a bed in the barracks, or your own space at the House of Worship.

You’re a veteran at this by now.

Aren’t you?

I. A WHOLE NEW YOU

The fog has thickened off the shores of the Island and in the areas that have still been obscured. So thick that it looks not unlike the heavy clouds of the recent storm. But late into the night and early into the morning, the fog seems to encroach on the Nameless City even more, blinding and catching Islanders traveling through in areas normally free of its effects. Anyone who gets caught in the especially heavy mist might find themselves suffering from more than just the usual amnesia.

The fog no longer only takes memories, but can also alter your memories... and you. You may forget your time on the Island. You may forget your life before. But you’ll remember something else. You’ll remember a life entirely different as if you lived it yourself: you are a merperson who has always lived here, in the waters around the Island. Those grand underwater cities look like ancient ruins to others, but to you? You still see them as beautiful and palatial as the day they were built. You are a Native whose memories are fuzzy, but you certainly remember living your entire life here in great happiness and luxury. And once you step out of the mist, you might even find yourself physically changed to match what you recall, with fins or tentacles and gills to allow you breathe beneath the waves. You might be completely transformed, or just enough to make life underwater as easy as it's ever been.

Someone else attempting to free you of these delusions will find that the more they try to force you to remember your true life, the more real and convincing your undersea life begins to feel. You must embrace this new (old?) life, embrace this new you in all ways and live it to its fullest. Completing Auspicious Acts will help bring out glimpses, hints, flashes of memory and recognition that perhaps this is not who you once were, and allow you to return to your former self. But the longer you take to embrace this, the harder it might be to let go. Some of these changes could become permanent.

II. LET XXX BE YOUR GUIDE

Things have been strange, not just for the people of the Island, but the robots as well. The typically welcoming robots that offer their assistance in guiding new arrivals or encouraging Islanders to visit the various locations seem to be scarce. There are fewer of them running around the entertainment district and other establishments. To ensure that new arrivals continue to have a pleasant Island experience, robots will be recruiting Islanders as mentors and guides: mentor guides, if you will! Volunteers will lead other Islanders around the Island as a means of helping them become better acquainted with the locations available here for your fun and entertainment, and they will be rewarded with credits for their hard work. Guides and sightseers alike could be someone fresh and new to the Island, someone who insists they’ve been here for years, or even someone that a robot randomly dragged off the street.

Mentor guides will all receive a very form-fitting and revealing uniform - no two are the same! - and, of course, a glossy paper map of all of the available sights on the Island. The pictures are big and detailed, and cute sex toy icons point out various key sights such as the recreation center, the bath house, and the library. There are even suggestions for which Auspicious Acts are the best for each location! Strangely, none of the maps list the same suggestions, so each map encourages its own unique experience.

Mentees will also find that their mentor’s voice is very appealing. So appealing that just listening to them speak is enough to get you feeling some kind of way. The more they talk, the more of a reaction you have. Your body begins to burn or itch and it’s very hard to pay attention to their words when thoughts about all the things you could be doing to them instead keep coming to your mind. The only way to relieve these thoughts might be to make your mentor stop talking altogether, or follow through with some of those helpful map suggestions.

Maybe you need them to mentor you in more ways than one?

III. SITCHES GET GLITCHES

You’re walking down the road, or in your own home, or visiting a friend and suddenly something happens out of the corner of your eye. There’s a soft pfzzzzzzt and the feel of static on the skin. You turn and realize that the wall is suddenly gone. Or, maybe the glass in a store window disappeared. Perhaps someone’s clothes just vanished off of them in the middle of the street, or the chair you were sitting in at the cafe suddenly poofs right from under you.

It’s as if the world around them is malfunctioning - little glitches that can last for seconds, hours, or even days before returning to normal on their own. Nothing that could seriously harm someone, but enough to be quite inconvenient. At least completing an Auspicious Act in the affected area or with the affected person seems to put it to rights immediately. Unfortunately, this doesn’t stop these glitches from happening again. You may be concerned, and the robots understand, but if asked they will insist it’s just the world adjusting as the Augur welcomes so many new people! Nothing to be worried about, obviously. It will take time for fluctuating energy levels to adjust, that’s all.

Some robots might even say it’s the perfect time to enjoy having so few barriers between you. Embrace the open nature of the Island and share yourself and your home with others. Walls are only meant for keeping out what you could be letting in!

OOC Notes:

Enjoy a mini Fourth Wall event, Islanders! As such, this test drive meme is open for anyone to create top levels, not just prospective players. Current player characters, characters you want to play in the setting but can't app full-time, drive-by castmates, duplicates, canon AUs, characters that normally would not be allowed such as fandom AUs and genderswaps (not including characters under 15), formerly dropped characters, etc. are all encouraged to come in and play! As all other test drive memes, this one will be game canon. Characters who fourth wall but do not app will disappear after a few days to a week, along with their home (if applicable) and all of their possessions.

Please label your top levels as to whether you are test driving [TDM] or fourth walling [4W]. (Of course, you are allowed to change your mind! But our rules regarding appable characters will still apply.) Since auspicious acts are an integral part of this event, potential and current players can swap one Auspicious Act on their card for one of their choosing, if needed for any of the prompts. As usual, prospective players can use an Act and swap it onto their card if they choose to app into the game.

If you have any questions, please ask them below.

"What? Alucard, are you even listening to me?"

Folding his arms across his chest with a heavy sigh before shaking his head and pinching the bridge of his nose. It was bad enough that Trevor had found himself washed up here in the first place but now Alucard of all people was here too? He wanted to laugh at him, mock the way he washed up on the beach, taking his boots off like the vain bastard he was. Trevor remembers almost drowning, dragging around his heavy cloak and one of the most uncomfortable nights sleep he's had in his life.

Okay, no, so he was kinda happy to him? Just, under different circumstances would have been much better. It was humiliating and embarrassing and the Belmont knew Alucard would be spitting feathers simply from the fact it was him having to explain all this shit to him.

"Look, I've not even been here long myself and I don't even know what half of this even says, let alone what it is." Flashing his bracelet at the Dhampir, showing him his own A5 card with another heavy sigh. "You'll just have to suck it up and learn fast, like the rest of us."

The slight change in colour to those perfectly pale cheeks hasn't gone unnoticed, Trevor was just being a little harsh on account of how awkward he felt, what with having to be the one to explain all of this. He just wanted to go back to his little pit of woe and drink until he fell asleep. Though... He couldn't very well just leave Alucard to fend for himself here, they'd bloody well eat him alive. "C'mon, we'll go over all of this again, over a drink this time."

He's not a prude. He really isn't. It's just, well he's been thrown completely off guard by his new surroundings. Quite frankly, he'd much rather take on a hoarde of night creatures than be having this conversation with Trevor Belmont of all people, and yet; here they were. It's a lot to take in. Eros energy. He equates it to the only thing he knows - sex magic. A power source, a conduit that affects this place and the people who populate it.

His face as well as the tip of those tapered vampiric ears of his are quite visibly red and for a moment, he brings a hand up to cover one side of his face. Silently willing himself to calm down. Don't let Belmont see that his precious feathers are ruffled.

Ah, and don't think those golden eyes didn't scan that bracelet with lightning speed. Bloodplay? Of course, he chooses not to make a comment. Simply nods and continues to walk in perfect stride with the hunter. Boots still in his other hand.

"I know what roughly half of those things mean." He's not about to show his own bracelet. Nope. Definitely not. Trevor would have to pry it from his cold, half-vampire hands at the brink of death.

Virgin doesn't always mean naive. He's a highly intelligent man with a keen mind and he's more than creative enough to fill in the gaps. However, there's the momentary distraction of the flush of rapidly building arousal cascading through his body, settling low in his groin. It keeps getting worse every time Trevor opens his mouth, but he hasn't drawn the connection. At least not yet. He'll just think it's an effect of being here in this place.

"Really, Belmont?" He can't resist the impulse to agitate him. Just a little. C'mon, you just used the term 'suck it up' in front of a half-vampire. He'll even give a flash of his fangs. The back and forth banter between them is easier to process. It feels normal and he wants to cling to that.

"Fine, I could use a drink." He gives a small nod.

He's beginning to miss the night creatures, Belmont. They're easier to deal with. He knows how to kill them, slice them to ribbons and chop off heads, but this? He's out of his element.

"Dare I ask if Sypha is here as well?"

Actually, that can be arranged. Apparently, there is a vast array of monsters and creatures out in the woods that surrounded the Island. Some rather large beasties in the sea too, from what Trevor has heard. Honestly, he's been tempted to take himself off there and explore, he does better on his own. Just needs a few of his items back before he ventures off. As for the Eros energy, Trevor doesn't know anything about that, magic is more Alucard and Sypha's deal, he'll leave all that nasty stuff up to them.

Had this been under any other, more normal circumstances, Trevor would have been ripping into the Dhampir for blushing. Don't think he can't see the tint of pink that's blooming over the bridge of your nose, Alucard, because he can!

The A5 card was still something of a mystery for the Hunter, Alucard might not recall but Trevor confessed he couldn't read not long before Sypha broke his father's Castle. There was only one person so far that had seen his list of lewd and humiliating tasks and the only comment they had about it, was that they had some of the same squares.

And listen, Tepes! It's not like Trevor specifically asked for anything on his list y'know! He doesn't even know Bloodplay is on there! Or whips as a matter of fact.

"Well good for you. Because I don't and I've no interest in any of them. I don't care. I just want my bloody stuff back." Now that he thinks about it, his dark brows raising a tad, he does have to wonder what ludicrous activities are the son of Dracula's list. "Out of curiosity... Do we have any the same?" The tone of his voice, a little higher as he ponders this for longer than he ought to.

This place has a horrible way of planting suggestions and feelings in your head. Why Trevor found that out in his first week here! He'd never been on such a huge sea vessel before and whatever they were feeding him and supplying him to drink, obviously had been spiked with something rather potent. Though, he doesn't like to reminisce on his actions that day... If something was effecting Alucard, other than pure delightful Belmont charm that is, it was only taking hold of the half-vampire. Trevor, for the most part, seemed to be in his usual frame of mind.

"Hm? What, what is it?" Trevor tossed the blonde a look, a smirk curling upon his lips at the flash of fangs. "God did I really just say that?" Sniggering like a child, covering his mouth for a moment, amused by the situation and by how precious Alucard was. "You'll have to get used to that sort of thing. You're going to have people poking and prodding you with questions all the bloody time. Trust me." A pause as he remembered something, or rather someone. "Oh, and there are other monster hunters here. So, I dunno, maybe don't smile or something if you don't want to their attention." Not that Trevor would stand idle and let someone attempt to harm Alucard that is... They're friends after all.

Clapping a hand on Alucard's back as he laughed. "Good! Because you're paying!" No really, you are and you already have been. Trevor had opened a tab in your name in most places that served alcohol. Sorry?

God, Trevor misses them too. In fact, seeing Alucard stroll down from the sands and being made to show him the ropes were actually the only thing keeping him sober at the moment. Dare he say he missed the other? The sly comments, the holier than thou looks, and even the way he belittles him on his scent and apperance. Sad times when being ripped into by your friend is what you look forward to, huh?

At the mention of the Speaker, Trevor's shoulders slump a little. Shaking his head and shrugging a shoulder. "If she is, I've not come across her yet. Though I get the feeling if she was here, we'd have known about it already."

The slap of a broad hand over his back earns the hunter an irritated look. Briefly. It flashes across his face and then disappears. Thankfully, the blush from earlier is completely gone by now as well. He's beginning to regain his bearings. Adjusting to this new place bit by bit. Trevor's presence helps. It helps a great deal more than he'll ever admit to himself, let alone to him.

"Stop smiling? However will I cope?" Said with all of the sass and sarcasm that Alucard Tepes is known for among his rather small circle of friends. It's interesting that Trevor would mention encountering other monster hunters and despite his flippant tone, he stores that knowledge away for later.

Honestly, Belmont, hiding his fangs is the least of their worries. It's his eyes that give it away, not to mention that ethereal beauty of his. Let's face it, when he walks into a room, all eyes are usually drawn to him. There's very little chance a skilled hunter wouldn't notice something's off.

And yes, he did gloss right over the first question about his own A5 and if they have anything in common there. Quite a few, actually.

The comment about monster hunters keeps drawing his mind back to something. Something is nagging at the back of his head, but it's hard to think clearly. Every time Trevor opens his mouth, he immediately loses his train of thought. It's quite frustrating, actually.

"Paying? With what money?" Have another slightly irritated look, Belmont. He didn't exactly wash up on shore with any coin in his pockets. If he ever does learn that Trevor's been collecting a sizable debt in his name all throughout this island, he'll be quite cross. Might even toss him around for a bit.

Then again, they might just enjoy that a bit too much, these two. Grappling each other on a sandy beach.

He goes silent at the mention of no Sypha here. Perhaps it's for the best. "She's more than strong enough to handle herself, wherever she is." That's not an attempt to comfort Trevor. It's a straight, solid fact. Even without the two of them to back her up, the speaker is a force to be reckoned with.

He stops just short of reaching the bar/tavern. Golden eyes going quite wide with a sudden realization. Taka and Sumi, they're more than likely alone in the castle. Completely unchaperoned. All the knowledge they could ever want, plus the Belmont hold, right at their fingertips now that he's not around to monitor them.

"We must hurry to get back to our world. There are two vampire hunters in the Castle at the moment. Harmless when I'm around, but I do not trust them to be left unattended."

And don't you fucking look at him like that Belmont. It's not as if he could ever predict that he'd be pulled out of his own bloody castle and launched onto this strange island. Alright? Plus, he was lonely.
