TDM 015: IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PARADISE

TDM 015: IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PARADISE

00. Arrival

You come out of the water, the Nameless Island's own inherent energy drawing people in. It's like being suspended between realities and abruptly pushed from behind through a rift in dimensions. It may make you sick, or that might be the motion of the ocean, lifting you to the surface and carrying you to shore.

Waterlogged and covered in sand, new arrivals will be greeted by robots who welcome them with towels and bracelet devices. The A5 card is already loaded up. If you don’t manage to get away from them quickly enough, they may even usher you toward the Laid Bare Spa, where new arrivals will be offered free massages, a sauna, hairstyling, and their clothing may come up permanently missing. But you will be given a complimentary towel to leave with if needed!

Feel free to explore the Island, though there isn’t much to see beyond what arrivals before you have helped to rebuild. Most of the buildings are abandoned and in dire need of repair, and beyond the city lingers a thick fog that obscures much of the wilderness from view. Wander too far into this fog, and you will find yourself mysteriously looping back to where you began, your memories of what you were doing and how you got there erased.

With that in mind, it may be wise to stake your claim on a place to live in the now, whether a rundown apartment in the City, a tent on the beach, a bed in the barracks, or your own space at the House of Worship. Your inventory will be found a day later, wrapped up haphazardly and delivered to each person's makeshift home.

I. Beach Episode

Welcome to your beautiful and sunny island paradise, Erku! ...wait, it's sunny? That's right! For about two weeks, the Island will enjoy unusually warm and clear weather, just perfect for enjoying the cool waters of the beach. Don't swim out too far, however, lest you stray into hazardous choppy waters or get lost in the fog that still lingers beyond the peaceful cove. Just stay close, and you're golden! Once again, friendly robots have erected beachside food stalls for grilling fish and crabs, and encourage any enterprising Islanders to help hawk foods for credits.

If gutting and cleaning fish isn't your forte, however, never fear. The robots are recruiting for a very important task! You see, they have very thoughtfully set up swimming and snorkeling lessons for any Islanders who are doubting their skills at staying afloat, or who just want to have some fun in the waves. There is only one complication: the robots are too heavy to swim.

Enter, you! Earn credits by instructing your fellow Islanders in the marvels of the ocean. Not just swimming and snorkeling, but also fishing, clam digging, and sand castle art - among other things - are valuable skills you can sell.

II. Sand Sport

For the more competitive sort, the robots of Erku are happy to share a bit of culture from the planet's ancient past: wet sand wrestling! Volunteers (or any innocent Islander roped off the beach by an enthusiastic 'bot) don their skimpiest swimwear and duke it out for dominance in the wet sand by trying to throw their opponent outside of a ring. Knock-outs count as an automatic lose, so be careful! Oh, and no worries if you aren't particularly strong. Before the match, competitors are offered a a special drink - simply named "The Creamy" - an ancient recipe which is said to temporarily increase your strength and vitality. One shot of this, and anyone could take on Goliath! (And not just in a fight.)

By the way… those who lose the competition are mysteriously compelled to accompany the victor for the day, waiting on them hand and foot, anticipating and fulfilling their needs before they are spoken. Did the 'bots forget to mention that?

III. Graciously Given Gifts

While swimming in the nude is completely acceptable on the Island, the robots know that many residents still (for some reason) value their modesty. That is why they are happy to encourage beachside revelry and communion by making sure scanty swimwear is readily available to Islanders who are in need of something to cover up with - while still showing off your assets, of course. Islanders may purchase for themselves, but they are especially encouraged to gift swimwear to their fellow Islanders... in fact, any swimwear to be given as a gift is free! Not only is it a lovely gesture to let a friend or lover know you appreciate their body, but also, swimwear received as a gift is said to be very good luck in wet sand wrestling competitions.

Naturally, the robots are sensitive to the emotional needs of their organic charges, and thus they wouldn't want any new, recent, or less personable arrivals to the Island to feel left out for not receiving gifts. That's why some Islanders will find surprise swimsuits in pretty gift wrap sitting on their literal or metaphorical doorstep… addressed with love from a random Islander! With thoughtfully written messages included, of course, usually complimenting the recipient's figure in graphic and/or poetic terms.

If you have any manners, surely you'll find these mystery admirers and thank them for the lovely gift! (If you're really a person of culture, maybe you'll even show it off for them.)

"There are times when stealth is a better than going in guns blazing. We know next to nothing about this place. It would be incredibly dumb to start fighting someone we don't understand." Her time in the military helped her a lot with things like this, but it also seemed liked common sense to learn about a potential enemy before trying to fight.

She motions to the seat across from her. They could talk better if he sat down. She had already gotten some information from the robots around this place, but she didn't trust it at all.

"I have. I'm glad you're here. At least I can trust you," she said with a slight shake of her head. She really didn't want to discuss sex bingo. She was still trying to wrap her head around this whole place.

"At least they seem to want us to enjoy ourselves while we're here."

"I can handle it, but a hand wouldn't hurt," she said as she set the armor down and moved a few things around. She held out her helmet and a few smaller bits of armor. "Thanks."

"I don't recommend trying to swim in armor. Even lightweight armor is a good way to try and drown." She needed to figure out a safe place to stay and store her armor while she figured out what this place was and how to get out of it.

"How could anything be of use if it is loud, though? Wouldn't it ruin the point of it being a long-ranged weapon?" The conversation nonetheless seemed to interest him. His head-turning slightly and he once more began to look over the various trinkets. His fingers brushing over a particularly ornate shell. "Isn't part of the point of range so that you could keep an advantage in terms of both distance and stealth? If the weapon is loud it would be difficult not to make yourself known, right?"

Why would anyone create some sort of strange loud noise-making bow? Surely the speed of the projectile wasn't that much of an advantage.

[ It's a very good shove! And it would've certainly won her this little match outright if Colette didn't reflexively catch herself... in midair, as two glowing wings sprout from her back slightly above the ground, all her limbs held out in surprise.

Taking a deep breath, Colette hovers upright, and drifts back towards the ring. ]

Well, that was lovely. Emi just stood there awkwardly, looking away until he got the ocean out of his body. Once he stood up straight, she looked him back in the eyes, aaand wrapped her towel around her hand before reaching out to shake.

"Emi. I wish I was a monster, then I could start working on getting out of here instead of just being grumpy." They expect her to do what now???

He sits, looking like a happy golden retriever at being considered trustworthy. Not that he ever doubted his own trustworthiness, but he’s had Aranea feels that way.

He trusts her, too. Which is wild to think about, but killing giant godkiller worm machines together can do that.

“Yeah, I guess so! But their idea of us enjoying ourselves is a little…”

Perverted.

“Anyway. It’s weird here, but not dangerous. Not unless you try to leave the city, anyway.”

And even then he doubts it would pose much challenge for her.

All things considering, Su Minshan seemed far more distracted by his general environment than he had been by the child who had been standing on the other side of the pit. His eyes were wide, like a deer caught in the midst of the hunt as he frantically looked around at the people who jeered on towards them from the sidelines.

There were so many people watching... Which he normally wouldn't have minded so much if it weren't for the fact that the robots that had managed to capture him prior had taken his robes from him! And what was left, the sheer lack of clothing! This felt more like a punishment of some form than any competitive sport!

"We--!? Are we really going through with this!?" The shock in his voice was as obvious as the red shade of his cheeks. How could this boy approach this situation so casually!? "Are you not the least bit embarrassed about this?!"

Because he most certainly was.

00.

Well, this was most certainly an odd turn of events. One moment he was face-to-face with a god in a temple, trying to one him up and rehash things that he'd rather everyone forgot, and now-- Now he seemed to be outside enjoying a rather pleasant day at a... Beach?

Yes. This was most certainly odd. Last Cho Hakkai had recalled, there was no beach around for hundreds if not thousands of miles. And yet, here he was. It was a beautiful day, and the ocean seemed to stretch out until the horizon. It was stunning, really.

But that was not his concern at the moment. What was most important was that he collected himself and found out where he was and how he got here. Sighing out as he quickly stood up, brushing the wet sand from his clothes and readjusting the monocle along with his right eye before looking around.

At least there seemed to be people around? And... Robots as well? How strange.

Well, hopefully, someone here had some clue as to what was happening. So what better way than to ask... Right?

"Hello! Nice to meet you. ♥" Cho Hakkai seemed to have quite the pep in his step as he approached. Holding a calm and kind smile as he waved over towards you casually. "Do you mind if I ask you something?"

0I.

"I thought I sensed a large quantity of energy in this direction," There was a pleasant hint of surprise in Hakkai's voice as he approached the large tables of food being prepped. The interest in his expression was absolutely apparent as he looked over everyone hustling and bustling about in their aprons and swimsuits. It seemed a large quantity of food was being prepared for some reason, and his curiosity had gotten the better of him.

None of these were fish that seemed familiar to him, but surely there wasn't anything too different between the fish of this world and his, right?

"Do you mind if I ask what all this is for? It would seem there's quite a need for cooks considering all you have going on here."

II.

At first, Cho Hakkai would seem like the most unassuming person to end up in a situation like this. After all, he far from looked like anything special. But somehow, he managed to stand out just enough to catch the attention of the robots.

It sounded like a physical competition of some sort. And although hardly the type to show off, he couldn't help but think the idea sounded like fun. At least, that was what he thought until they told him about the mandatory wardrobe of nothing but a bathing suit.

Well, he wasn't exactly the most comfortable with his own body. But, if that was the way of the sport, then... Perhaps? Surely he wouldn't think about it too much the moment he started participating.

And so he stood on one side of the ring—- a young man with dark hair, a monocle, and a surprisingly lithe but fit body. The curve of his muscles was only secondary to the various scars that covered over them. The most apparent being large, fairly ugly-looking scar taking up the center of his stomach. His posture was straight but reserved as he stared over towards his first opponent.

"Ah, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that so many people would be excited to take part in such an unsafe activity. Well then, shall we?"

III.

A gift-giving ceremony, huh? How fun! Or, at least it would have been fun should he have known anyone. But he was still new to this land and couldn't think of anyone who would accept any gift from him.

And so, he had avoided the tradition despite having heard of it. Mostly keeping to himself. At least, until he found himself face to face with another person holding a curious-looking package out to him.

"Ah, oh, hello," Strange. This almost felt like the sort of situation one would experience during some valentines festival. "Um, is this suppose to be for me?"

Jin Guangyao, now Jin Ziyao was on a trip to the waters to restock the fish stores in his small home. He had a few ideas on what he had wanted to make for dinner but wanted the fresh supplies.

He wasn't even that surprised at the newcomer who wandered out of the ocean, there were so many who returned and emerged from the sea after all. He was dressed in modern clothing today, a cream-colored buttondown shirt with a floral motif on it and a pair of knee-length shorts. He thought he was getting the hang of the clothing. He returned the smile with an amicable one of his own. He stood in the side of the beach with a half-full basket of fish, and a small net that was more likely a gauze curtain once upon a time.

He gave him a formal bow in greeting.

"Hello! I am Jin Ziyao of the Lanling Jin sect. The pleasure is mine. I would be happy to answer anything you may have in mind."

Good work, Trevor, keeping people safe from bloodsuckers and the like. But given how it's very sunny, and they're at the beach, the chances of a vampire showing up are now slim.

As for his couch, Peter had a cottage he uses from time to time beside his apartment, which he now shares with Finn, so he could offer it to Trevor if the conversation goes well. Or he can always direct him to the free apartments in the House of Worships, thankfully they have better options than sleeping on top of rocks and ditches.

See, trevor havign no idea this is a sex island is exactly why Senku and Peter are working to implement a guide for the newcomers. It's almost all coded, they just need to bring it to the Augur and exchange a reward or something to try and install the guide among the bracelet offered apps. So far it's a work in progress but once it's done, it will help people who have no idea what is going on upon arrival.

"You really were thirsty. And it's no problem, man, we gotta help each other around here." He drinks his beer at a less rushed pace than his new friend and smiles behind the glass at Trevor's reaction. At the speed Trevor's eating, they will have to order more food soon. It's good that Peter thought about bringing enough credits.

"Hah, not quite, no. I'm more handsome than any corpse, come on...When I was resurrected, along with a bunch of other people, It was as if our deaths never happened in the first place. It's a long story that involved magic space rocks, you don't want to know about it. Have any of the robots mentioned where you are and what this place is about?"

She shifts her weight to one side. Looking him over she tries to estimate what sort of figure he might have based only on what she can see. He isn't wrong about them not being practical. There's no guarantee they won't disintegrate in water either knowing these robots.

It may be time-wasting foolishness, but Heero's eyes as he squares up his stance are incredibly serious. Who would expect anything less of him? Perhaps he would look this solemn regardless of his opponent, but he also knows better than to underestimate Wufei simply because the fight is meaningless.

Scanty swimwear leaves every one of his scars on display. Hundreds he's collected since childhood, burns and bullet wounds and surgery scars - permanent proof of the merciless training Heero endured to transform him from boy to weapon. None of it was fun.

This might be fun.

He doesn't bother to answer, beyond to charge his opponent. The head-on attack is a feint, but he expects Wufei will expect that.

"What? No."

Pulling a face, his brow furrowing as he stared down at her. Did she really just sass him out in the most casual way? Oh, oh he liked her.

His furrowed brow switched, raising one or them instead as he crossed his arms over his muscular chest, tipping his head aside and smirking. "I didn't realize I was s'posed to be impressing anyone. Is that what you think you're doing? In that?" Nodding his head in a gesture towards her rather skimpy swimsuit. Had he not been in competition mode, he might have noticed how revealing it was and how well it hugged her slim form. But no, Trevor is a total knucklehead, biting at the bait.

You'd be surprised, he personally knows one that can wander around freely in the light. Though, Alucard isn't your usual run-of-the-mill vampire so, maybe he doesn't count. But there are other things that creep in the night that can venture out in the day too! You can never be too careful, Peter.

Oh, please, no. Never trust Trevor with real estate! The last time he stepped foot on family soil, he only went and bloody well ruined it with monster blood and rubble. Best not to leave him alone somewhere you value. The free apartments sound nice enough, though, he's used to being alone so the nose of other people living so close to him, might be rather unsettling to get used to. He's kinda a hermit these days.

Honestly, he would have probably just scoffed at the idea he was brought to a sex Island of all places. He was a monster hunter, not a lover! Still, if it means an easy life, he might be willing to go along with it for a while. But yes, having a few more details when he arrived might have made things less confusing.

"Still am." He said, raising his glass to one of the small mechanical waiters as they passed, signaling he wanted more alcohol. Narrowing his eyes as he leans in over the table a little towards Peter. "Help each other? Sure, but what's the catch?" There's always a catch, he knows that much. Perhaps Trevor could pay Peter back for the meal and the drinks when he starts earning credits of his own, that would be helping out a bro, right?

"I dunno, I've seen more attractive with less of a pulse before." A pause and a smile. "No offense." Grinning at Peter, it was just a playful dig, he wasn't attracted to the undead. Inhaling slowly through his nose and nodding after Peter said off of that. "Actually, strange space rocks sounds perfectly normal, all things considered. Hm? Oh, robots? Are those these guys?" Tapping his knuckles on one of the robot's heads as it zoomed past them, knocking off kilt for a moment as it spat out some annoying sounds at the Belmont before continuing on its way. "No. Why? What's the catch? We all turn into pumpkins at midnight or someshit?"

He's not going to hold it against her, even he wouldn't want to shake his own hand either. He should feel a little bad for making her feel so awkward but he doesn't, call it selfish but he's having just the worst day ever.

"Dunno anyone that would wish to be a monster." That's new but he's not going to put too much thought into it, it was probably just a harmless conversation. Sorry Emi, Trevor's never been very good at this socializing stuff. "Grumpy? You don't look very grumpy to me." A thought and a pause before he adds; "Don't s'pose you know where we are do you?"
belmonts: (046)

[personal profile] belmonts 2021-07-23 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, it's never too early for a good whipping."

Okay, so she was fun. Trevor chuckled silently at her comment, fully ready to let her make the first move. He wasn't above punching a woman but he was still a gentleman after all. ladies first and all that.

Trevor did what Trevor does best and took that punch, right in the face like a champ. Grunting slightly at the impact, turning his face aside and spitting out a little blood onto the sand before smirking, raising a hand to touch the side of his face. That's gonna smart in the morning.

"If I had any credits I would have bought you lunch first!"

Okay, enough small talk, it's go time. Trevor bent his knees slightly and suddenly shot towards her. An arm came out to wrap around her middle in a clothesline maneuver, taking her off her feet and dragging her back a few feet before slamming her down into the sand, leaning over her on all fours in an attempt to pin her.
spacedisaster: (They know me as Star Lord)

Alucard, the son of the only woman in the universe who had the balls to call out Dracula on his bs and survive, is a statistical outlier and should not be counted anyway.

In that case, he would direct Trevor to the free, public housing. Peter worked hard to get that cottage, he wanted to keep it in one piece and clean from any guts and blood. Being a monster hunter and being a lover weren't mutually exclusive, it was only a matter of giving it a try. Both jobs involved getting close and personal with someone else and then impaling them.

"Suit yourself, but I'll only buy you two more. Make them last this time." While he didn't mind sharing his gains, Peter was not made of money and he didn't like being taken advantatge of. Some weeks ago, he had to take some ridiculous and questionable jobs at the spa to earn the credits he had now, and that was an experience he wasn't too keen in repeating.

He had to stop himself from smiling further at the cynicism in Trevor's voice because it was all too familiar. He had also been waiting for the shoe to drop when he first got here, and he still didn't trust the Augur's intentions now, but that only motivated Peter to not be completely shitty towards other islanders.

"No catch, in my case, I like having someone to talk to." Peter misses hanging out with people for the sake of hanging out with people, with no ulterior motives or because he's trying to bed someone. Don't get him wrong, he was fine with the sex and no attachments, more so because he used it to cope with his own issues, but it could be tiring and shallow.

"But it's true that we don't wake up on the beach out of the blue, the Augur brought us here because it thinks we can help the planet heal and improve. And offense is still taken. Fuck you, I'm a delight." Peter scoffed, grinning back all the way to make it clear he wasn't in the least offended despite his rude words, and that he wasn't insulting Trevor seriously either. "Do you hang around gorgeous death people often, hm?"

Peter knows a soft-spoken, lovely guy with pink hair who makes tea out of corpses. He wouldn't be surprised at this point to discover that Trevor had weird hobbies and evne weirder friends. Pestering the nearby robot earned him a laugh from Peter, even as the poor thing moves away from them while sounding as irritated as this robot were capable of looking.

"Yes, the metal guys with the charming personalities are robots. They're not dumb, but they're not very useful either. And they like to play matchmaker because you see, the whole 'help us heal the planet' stuff the Augur promotes here is done by generating Eros energy. So, basically...fucking. You're now living in a sex island, congratulations."

He could sugar coat it, probably, but he wanted to see Trevor's reaction to the news and not beat around the bush.

Ah, so this is how everyone arrives? That would make the Belmont feel a little better about his own arrival if he knew that. Honestly, he thought it was just his luck, washed up literally and physically. Though, to learn that people from his world might eventually wash up here too? That could be a little disturbing, complicated and dangerous too. Perhaps it was for the best that Trevor was the first then?

Old me? Old man?! Now listen here kid! Trevor would have been so offended to know Duo thought he was an old man! Though, it just drove the point home that he clearly needed to take better care of himself! Oh God, had his life be that harsh, that someone only a year or two younger than him thought he was old? Shit.

Drying his mouth on the sleeve of his shirt, also not exactly dressed for the beach, what with his several layers and long knee-high boots. Trevor finally stood, stretching his back out and grunting before getting a proper look at the kid. Nope, didn't recognize him. "I wish this was a hangover." Covering his lips with his fingers as he burped."Oh, God... Did I swallow a fish?"

"If you wish to attempt to struggle against fate, I wouldn't stop you," Wufei replies, completely calm despite the circumstances; his training was long, and difficult, as was the war itself; he is not without scars, but he shows no sense of concern with the skimpy white speedo he's been presented with.

"I might even find it admirable. Particularly if you succeed," He has been down this road before, you see, "I am Chang Wufei. Are you going to fight or not?"

It is of course a feint.

Heero frequently had the firepower and strength to manage exactly that maneuver; to bull in directly, and strike at the head. Rarely, in Wufei's observation, had he actually done so. It was more his style to find the weakpoint and break it there, and only to face strength with strength at extremis, when it was most needed.

He looked forward to seeing that in action; to finding his own fault, that unknown weakness where only an outside perspective might see, and correct it.

Wufei waits for the appropriate moment, sidesteps and strikes in return. He doesn't pull his punches, not with Heero. After all, even if those scars told no other stories, they made it clear that Heero could take the brunt of Wufei's strength, and more.

The person Hakkai chose to approach is, regretfully, someone not particularly personable. He sure stands out, though. Heavily pierced, blond, and chilling on a blanket under some trees near the edge of the beach. In place of his usual outfit he's got on light, short sleeves and some green and black swim trunks. He glances up and over at the monocle-wearing man.

A quick glance at Hakkai's damp, sandy clothes tells him all he needs to know. A new person.

"You can ask. Jury's out on whether I'll answer."

A disgruntled huff is Felix's only response to this talk of disturbing things about the island. Yes, he's heard by now, and intends to stay far away from all of it.

Now that Linhardt points it out, it does seem sort of obvious that they wouldn't remember any of this after they left, but he sure isn't going to give the mage the satisfaction of admitting that.

"Still, with your constant need to poke your nose into everyone else's business, sparing Flayn seems uncharacteristic. Unless she refused to speak with you, in which case, I don't blame her." Listen, he doesn't dislike Linhardt, and despite his major Crest has never been bullied into talking about it with him. He doesn't even sound annoyed. This is just how he is.

Felix narrows his eyes at the strange turn Linhardt's reactions have taken, but he has no idea why such a basic question with an equally basic response warrants blushing, of all things. He decides he doesn't care. "Then I suppose that may explain why he wasn't able to heal it back home."
