TDM 014: A DAY AT THE FAIR

TDM 014: A DAY AT THE FAIR

00. Arrival

You come out of the water, the Nameless Island's own inherent energy drawing people in. It's like being suspended between realities and abruptly pushed from behind through a rift in dimensions. It may make you sick, or that might be the motion of the ocean, lifting you to the surface and carrying you to shore.

Waterlogged and covered in sand, new arrivals will be greeted by robots who welcome them with towels and bracelet devices. The A5 card is already loaded up. If you don’t manage to get away from them quickly enough, they may even usher you toward the Laid Bare Spa, where new arrivals will be offered free massages, a sauna, hairstyling, and their clothing may come up permanently missing. But you will be given a complimentary towel to leave with if needed!

Feel free to explore the Island, though there isn’t much to see beyond what arrivals before you have helped to rebuild. Most of the buildings are abandoned and in dire need of repair, and beyond the city lingers a thick fog that obscures much of the wilderness from view. Wander too far into this fog, and you will find yourself mysteriously looping back to where you began, your memories of what you were doing and how you got there erased.

With that in mind, it may be wise to stake your claim on a place to live in the now, whether a rundown apartment in the City, a tent on the beach, a bed in the barracks, or your own space at the House of Worship. Your inventory will be found a day later, wrapped up haphazardly and delivered to each person's makeshift home.

I. HAY FEVER

A new mode of transportation has made an appearance! From one end of the fairgrounds to the other, and even sometimes off the beaten path and into the wilds, robot-horse-drawn hay wagons shake, rattle, and roll. And, of course, what are hay wagons great for? Anyone fancy a roll in the hay?

Anyone who is taking a hay ride will see their A5 card flash - and they will be given the option to trade one square for the vehicles square. (New players engaging in this prompt can call it a freebie.)

But beware! The wagons roll at all hours of the day and night. At night, the spooks come out to play! Rides will be "haunted" by frightful spooks played by machines and your local Islanders. The 'bots will hire anyone interested to don their favorite slasher costume or ghostly garb. After all, everyone knows that fear and adrenaline are related to attraction, right? Just another thoughtful service provided by your generous benefactors.

II. Acute Beef Poisoning

How about an eating contest? Multiple competitions are held throughout the fair: hot dogs, hot dogs, pies -- just use your imagination! Of course, there's always the chance that you've been recruited to be "eaten"... So sit back and enjoy the ride.

For those of you with an exhibitionist streak, all contests are held in front of an audience.

Be careful, ye who eat here, because the pies in particular have been known to have the following effects (with a two-hour duration):
  • Meat - A simple aphro pie; a character finds themselves craving a very different kind of meat.
  • Apple - Temporary amnesia befalls those who've tried the apple pie. The effects can be as great as forgetting your entire identity or as minor as forgetting what you've had for breakfast.
  • Cherry - Look upon the very face of innocence! All guile falls away from this character, making it impossible for them to lie.
  • Strawberry - The compulsion to follow orders may be strong sometimes, but the strawberry pie comes with the compulsion to give orders instead.
  • Blueberry - Oh no! You're looking a bit... off-color? The blueberry pie turns a character's skin blue for the next two hours.

III. BRODEO

Last but not least, try the mechanical contraptions of various sizes - equipped with equipment of various sizes as well! The objective of this game is to last as long as you can.

Thirteen Hand Sam is the smallest of the mechanical horses. It has no attachments, but instead vibrates until the rider orgasms.

Mechanic Mike is the second mechanical horse. With a modest six-inch dildo, it bucks its rider around until orgasm.

For those who like a real challenge, the mechanical bull -- the Bonine -- is a two-person contraption that straps each rider in with their own dildo. They sit face-to-face on the thrashing machine, within touching range, able to encourage each other to come (and to lose) more quickly.

Ride like you've never ridden before, or comfort someone in the aftermath of a job well done.

[Arrival]

Going from a snowy mountain top to being drenched in cold water and covered in sand did not amuse the Ghost King. That doesn't, however, stop him from standing and brushing the sand off.

Surroundings were new and unfamiliar, as was the robot that came towards him with some type of bracelet. Even after that is given he doesn't stick around. Much less when he notices more of the robots.

He would head back in this general direction later, if he thought it benefited him. For now? He might as well explore the island itself and see if anything seemed familiar. While also keeping an eye out for his soulmate.

[Hay Fever]

After managing to get cleaned up earlier in the day he'd noticed the horses. They were nothing like what him and Zishu were used to. He would remember horses that were robotic in nature. There were so many things about the place that were catching his attention, even if he still hadn't figured out what to think of the place yet.

He's comfortable, for the most part, in that little square with his fan out and lazily fanning himself. Something felt off about this ride, though, and he lets his eyes roam around the surroundings before him.

[Brodero]

Kexing had never seen a game that required contraptions like that before. Though, he doesn't participate in it himself, it looked intriguing. People being thrown onto some mechanical animal only to gain pleasure. It wasn't something that he would've thought of. Then again, most of his pleasure came from one man. Before Zishu, there had been others, but that was before he'd found his soulmate.

Snapping his fan shut he sees one of the people who had partaken in one of the mechanical animals. "Are you alright?" Whether he was genuinely concerned or not was anyone's guess, but he could make sure the person wasn't too bad off.

Anything you else strikes your fancy, go for it. You can PM Kexing's journal or message me here]
zunge: (on this occasion it's not true)

Arrival

[One heavily pierced blond in the waters can be seen having a not so hot time, thrashing and stumbling awkwardly around in two layers of clothing until the waves send him rolling into shallow enough water that he can dig his feet into the sand and push himself into a kneel.

Kindly give him a moment to lose his lunch atop warm, wet sand. He spits out the last of it, dips his face into the water to wash it out, then spits that out. Waking up suspended in water was super irritating. One, he doesn't know how to swim. Two, thanks to the degree of water pressure present, his dull sense of touch, his CIPA-like condition affecting his ability to perceive temperature, it felt like a whole lot of nothing, which messed with his head. Three, he has no fucking idea where he was or how he got there. Four, his stomach still felt weird in a way he didn't have the words for.

Once the helper robots come, his first instinct is to bat them away in annoyance. At least he waits till after taking a towel and bracelet to insult them, tell them to go away, or kick at any that linger or persist.]

I can take care of myself just fine.

[Following all that other intro stuff, it soon becomes time for wandering around the island while drenched and covered in sand with a towel wrapped around his neck, and hopefully finding some dry clothes. At some point he does bother checking out the spa. Most of it doesn't interest him. It seems like it'd cater to people who aren't like he is. It's good for cleaning off the sand, and that's about it—

Until he finds out about the birch broom whippings.]

...Hey. Are those any good?

[He asks this of a random person.]

Acute Beef Poisoning

[When it comes to selecting his meals he tends to eat the same thing all the time - pizza and pasta, usually delivery or takeout. Lived off of it for years. But that isn't to say he can't be adventurous. If there's one thing Noiz is known for, it's trying out food without having a fucking clue what it even is. Which is to say that he selects some samples of pies without paying attention to the flavor or even trying to find that out in advance.

He's about halfway through his slice of blueberry pie when he notices his skin slowly turning blue. He holds up a scar-covered hand to inspect—a hand free of his usual bandages, as he ditched those sopping, sandy things earlier and hasn't found anything to re-wrap them with yet.]

What the hell.

[The rest of his skin has turned the same shade, enough to cause concern. Is he hallucinating himself into looking like a goddamn Smurf? Slowly turning, he stares dully at anyone nearby.]

Hey. You.

Verin Thelyss | Critical Role

[personal profile] the_other_brother 2021-06-19 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
Arrival
Beach

While Verin Thelyss knows how to swim, he is somewhat out of practice. There aren't a lot of opportunities for swimming in large, safe bodies of water in Xhoras. Hitting the water at that velocity hadn't helped, either, and by the time Verin makes it to shore, he's winded. He twists slowly to sit, managing to spare himself the indignity of throwing up sea water.

Sea.

He wipes his mouth and stares out at the rolling surf. Despite it being soaked, he drags his hood over his head, hoping to shield his eyes and skin at least somewhat from the sun. He sits there for some time, trying hard to pull together some theory as to how he got here. The nearest ocean is the Emerald Gultch, but this shoreline is a far, far cry from the one he remembers.

The drow twists to look over his shoulder, but everything he sees is foreign.

Laid Bare

The automotons are strange, but apparently mostly harmless. And exceedingly helpful. Or rather, it would feel helpful if it didn't also feel like he'd been herded in this direction. Disrobing doesn't quite feel like a choice, either, but Verin goes along with it, kind of amused and only a bit flustered by the attention.

By the time he's been rubbed down and cleaned up, he's feeling almost relaxed. There is still the perplexing and disturbing question of how he got here and where here is, but at least he doesn't have a dry film of salt and sand on his skin anymore. Rather than being given his clothes and sent on his way, however, he's just... sent on his way. Ushered right out as quickly and as efficiently as he'd been ushered in, Verin finds himself standing outside of the spa with only a towel for modesty.

Okay.

Well, now he has another task before he starts looking for answers: looking for clothes.

Accute Poisoning
While Verin has avoided getting involved directly in any competition, he does, perhaps, make off with some food. He doesn't know when he'll have a chance to eat again, and he's inclined to take advantage of the abundance while he can. He doesn't need much, but hunger has been gnawing at him. That swim is not an easy one to make.

What happens next is unexpected, though only some of the symptoms are--difficult to not notice. If someone happens to catch him after the meat will find a strong hand catching there arm and a warm smile offered, barely tempering the heated look in his eyes.

"I don't suppose you'd like to disappear somewhere for a different sort of fun," he purrs, voice smooth and accented. If anyone has met Essek Thelyss, it might sound familiar.

Throughout the day, he ends up trying cherries and strawberries as well. Those effects are a bit harder to recognize at first, but all it takes is a little conversation.

Wildcard
[Find Verin exploring and trying to suss out where the hell he is. Even with cloud cover, he'll try to keep a hood up. OTA for gen and aphro-induced smut. Happy to match action or prose.]

Zishu had been a little concerned when he hadn't immediately seen his soulmate upon splashing to shore, but admittedly only a little. As his silly Kexing says, they are Fated. They'll end up together again eventually.

So he'd gotten cleaned up and set to wandering, listening and observing all he can as he goes along. And that ended up with him watching a rather...unusual activity that has him curious, but not enough to try for himself. Not without his soulmate, at least, and speaking of...

A flash of relief runs through him despite his confidence of finding Kexing even here, and walks up to the other to peer over at the mechanical beasts. "Hm? Fine."

[personal profile] scramordie 2021-06-19 10:30 am (UTC)(link)
If Kexing was concerned that Zishu wasn't there it didn't show. His fated would find him eventually. It was just a matter of the other man showing up in this place. What with its strange mechanical beasts and... interesting activities on said beasts. Not that the people on those beasts even caught his eye, no matter how pretty.

It's the familiar sound of his voice that has him whirling around and giving a smile, "A-Xu." Then, a hint of amusement to his voice," You're late."
fated_dance: (Grin)

[personal profile] fated_dance 2021-06-19 10:41 am (UTC)(link)
Of course he would. Zishu ignores everything but his Kexing - pretty or not, interesting or not, none matter when his soulmate is right there.

Unless he wants to tease him, of course.

Being told he's late, of course, makes him laugh. "Am I?" He reaches out to pinch Kexing's shoulder with a grin. "Maybe I just wanted to explore a bit before hunting you down!"
scramordie: (Such Things Said)

[personal profile] scramordie 2021-06-19 10:55 am (UTC)(link)
Neither of them truly cared about anyone else outside of each other. Even if his Zishu liked to rile him up. Hopefully, that wasn't today. Not when they needed to explore the place a bit more.

He gives a mock pout at the pinch to his shoulder," You are." Though, that mock pout only gets worse," You decided to explore without me, A-Xu? You'll just have to do it all over again." He can't keep that straight face anymore, leaning in to kiss his soulmate.

Cinnis "Fish" Sedonsath | Original Character

[personal profile] freshtilapia 2021-06-19 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
00. Arrival
The last thing they remember is the crash of the waves and their body thrown like a ragdoll off the ship they had been sailing on. Then, it was all darkness and water. Luckily being merfolk had its benefits. There was no fear of drowning, even as the undertow continued to pull their body this way and that. And then... there was land.

Cinnis coughed upon the warmed sands of the beach, waiting for their body to adjust from breathing from the gills to taking air in from their nostrils once more. Their first breath was shaky, their body heavy from what had just happened. They washed up dressed as a sailor, their loose white shirt cut and adjusted to accommodate the red fins at their shoulders and forearms. Their red pants were cut in a similar fashion for the fins at their calves as well. And a deep purple sash was tied at their waist. At first glance, someone could consider them male.

Their eyes flutter open and they take in their surroundings before they notice the robot coming towards them, providing them with a towel and the bracelet device. They look at it curiously. This is all a bit much for a fantasy land merfolk to take in. They look around, trying to catch the eye of someone... more... organic before they allow themselves to get ushered by this thing of metal.

"Hey! Hey you there! Help a fish out, would you?" They call out, their voice rather androgynous for what seems to be a man.

I. Hay Fever
At the Fairgrounds, Cinnis notices the robot-horse-drawn hay wagons wandering by. Just out of sheer merfolk curiosity, they hitch a ride on one. By this time, they've gotten their belongings and after acertaining what kind of world this was-- off came their sailor "disguise" they used just to have accommodations on the ship they boarded. On went the clothes they were far more comfortable in: a leather vest-like garment that was cut above their midriff, and a pair of white loose harem pants that appeared rather translucent, especially in the light.

Hopping on to the back of one deftly, like the acrobat they really were, they peek in and grin at whoever was in it. "Care for a little company, darling?"

III. Brodeo
Exploring the fair more, the merfolk comes across the curious machines on display, two of them with very interesting protrusions. This certainly wasn't the kind of thing they'd usually find out in the world they knew.

Whoever's close by to them will see them turn and remark, "are most things here like this?" They gesture at the horses and bull with a hotdog in one hand.

Living mostly on a ship now means that there's a good view on people arriving on the island during those times. Fjord likes to patrol the beach and Molly climbs the rigging as far as he can to watch the shallower waters.

That's when he sees something very colorful, and he squints his red eyes to take in the form of what seemed like someone purplish with... fins? Maybe it was some kind of sea creature and not an arrival. Still, he's curious and slides down one of the ropes to then Misty Step down to the tiny walkway between the ship and the beach.

It takes him a while to get over to where the person eh was spotting was, and by then they at least have a towel and is calling out to the tiefling.

"Hello there! Are you alright?"

You know, aside from being washed up in a new dimension.

A tiefling. Thank the oceans, at least there was something familiar wherever they were.

"As alright as one faced with... whatever... all this is..." they remarked, gesturing grandly at the robot... or as grand as they could while still gasping a bit for air and coughing a little.

"Sorry. I'm not the most presentable at the moment... but I've been recently thrown overboard a ship! What is this sort of place?"

Molly's only run-in with fish people were the merrows in the swamp, but obviously this was a much less monstrous being. He's all smiles, waving away the robot.

"These automatons are fucking weird but harmless, don't worry about those."

He's never seen them being anything but awkward helpers, no matter how pushy they might be about sexy things.

"Mollymauk Tealeaf, a pleasure to meet you even if this mess." There's a swish of his coat as he gives a small bow. "Welcome to Fucksville, a place where everyone's trapped by some messed-up god-thing in its own little pocket of existence. You'll need a drink for this shit."

They seem much more calm once the automation is waved away. It was their first ever run in with one and they had absolutely no idea how to deal with it. So now, their attention was on the tattooed tiefling before them and the business of drying themselves with the towel.

"Mm... I'm Cinnis. Cinnis Sedonsath, though I suppose if that's a mouthful, I used to be called Fish as a nickname," they shrug. Even in their current attire and state, it was kind of easy to see that this merfolk had a certain... flourish? to them. They definitely weren't just some sailor thrown overboard.

"Do I trust you'd give me some information about this place then, Mister Tealeaf? Or Mollymauk. Whichever you prefer?"

[Akira sets down his fork, his own slice of pie untouched; unsure if the blue skin is some sort of weird effect or not. It might be best to abstain. Noiz seems surprised by the outcome, but it's hard for Akira to tell with absolute certainty despite the obvious 'what the hell'. He could just be an alien who changes colour. In response, there's only a returned dull stare for half a second before eye contact is lost, and a quiet noise of acknowledgement that anything was heard at all.]

[personal profile] zunge 2021-06-19 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[Any verbal acknowledgement is better than being ignored. The noncommittal response is actually somewhat welcome, compared to some annoying, extroverted chatterbox drivel.

Noiz holds up his scar-riddled hand. There's a couple of surface piercings on the back, though they don't stand out as much against blue skin as they would against the usual human skin tone.]

What color does my skin appear to be, to you?

[By now, all of his exposed skin looks blue. At least, to him. Is that a hallucination, though? Are his eyes playing tricks on him? Did he get drugged? What if it's a weird side effect from all those weeks of being Toue's unwilling lab rat? Eating food shouldn't be able to have this effect.]

"Molly, if you please. If we're calling you Fish, it's only fair."

They seem like an interesting person, if wet and straight from being thrown overboard. The tieflings tail swishes a little behind him as he nods to the tents higher up on the beach.

"There's a place up there to get off your feet and relax. It's a lot you need to know, but the very gist of it is that we're trapped here for now, and the weird god wants everyone to fuck."

Fish chuckles right at that. "A god that wants everyone to fuck, huh..." They mutter softly to themselves.

"Fine, Molly it is," they look up at where he was nodding to. "Those tents? Isn't that where that... whatever that was... was trying to usher me to?"

[The piercings stand out enough for Akira, but he's only thinking about how much they would hurt to have done; and then shifting a little awkwardly in his seat. He doesn't mention them at all. It's a long moment before he answers, like he's zoned out in the middle of this exchange, and maybe he did.]

... Blue... Is that... not normal?

[He doesn't sound particularly interested.]

[His lips press together in a thin line. He drops his hand and moves the half-finished pie slice away from him.]

No. It's not.

[As long as there's nothing with with the quiet guy's vision, then Noiz's vision should also be working properly.]

It's supposed to be similar to yours.

[Though Noiz pegs primarily as European, he has some Japanese in him.]

[Akira slides his pie slice away, source confirmed. He offers the tiniest bit of vague information.]

The food is weird here.

It will... go away.

[With a grumble and a sigh, he glowers the other way.]

How annoying.

[Though tempted to ask how long it'd take for it to go away, Noiz opts not to. Blue skin isn't a big deal aside from looking like a weirdo. He can wait it out.

Which reminds him...]

Why would anyone think blue is a normal skin tone?

[personal profile] curriculumachine 2021-06-19 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
There's aliens.

[It's a simplistic answer, which he then tries to elaborate on, in a stilted manner.]

Some... look human, but orange... and there's... tieflings? Blue, purple...

[He's never heard of a tiefling before he came here, but maybe Noiz has. They may not technically be aliens, but it's a good enough descriptor for Akira.]

Cremisius Aclassi | Dragon Age: Inquisition | OTA

[personal profile] krempuff 2021-06-19 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
HAY FEVER
A wagon ride, even with a strange mechanical horse, didn't seem to warrant the amount of giggling and silliness that the the robots were giving it. As far as Krem was concerned, it was just a way to get around, but one that he was happy to use nonetheless.

By himself, at least, it was nothing to write home about. With someone else, he started to notice that there was something weird and fishy going on. But he wasn't going to be the first to break a tension that might just be in his head.

ACUTE BEEF POISONING
Krem was competitive by nature. He'd never done a competitve eating contest (and he was purposefully ignoring and pretending he didn't know anything about the corner that had anything to do with more lascivious activities), but the object seemed pretty simple. Eat food quickly. Don't get sick. He could do that.

With a particular interest in both the meat and cherry arenas, Krem made a decent showing at both. He didn't win, but he was proud of himself for what he had done. And he was feeling rather good about it, too.

Maybe a little too good about it.

RIDE THE BULL?
At first glance, they were almost tempting. Krem was not a good horseman--he was a bad horseman, in fact--but he was fairly certain he could keep on something mechanical for however long this took, pride and stubbornness coming out. But then he actually took a second to look at the situation. And then he looked at the other two machines.

Now, no shame to anyone that wanted to do that sort of thing, but mostly? Krem was just concerned about the hygeine issues more than anything. He worked at the spa, after all, and he didn't think that people (and certainly not the robots) thought these things through before they decided that something phallic shaped was a good idea.

So there he stood, staring at the unoccupied mechanical "bull", frowning slightly.

"...I've seen bigger, for the joke."

It is unusual for him to be out during the brightest times of the day, but it is about that time, and all of them tend to make the rounds towards the beach and similar places, keeping an eye out for any other familiar faces.

Essek doesn't spend much time at the beach itself; floating over the more annoying parts of the sand before setting on more compact ground in the surf. He lets the water wash over his skin for a few minutes, wincing out at the horizon. Eventually he turns, dries his feet with a wave of prestidigitation before replacing his shoes, and moves for the spa nearby, thinking of a bath.

What he doesn't expect to find, however, is another drow. But more specifically a very familiar one, even if it has been a terribly long time since they'd last seen each other. He stops dead in his approach, heart screeching to a halt.

"Verin?"

That isn't a voice he's expecting. Verin actually perks up, and while it doesn't seem appropriate to smile, he does anyway. Essek is, perhaps, the very last person Verin expected to clap eyes on in the near future. He adjusts his grip on the small towel he's been given, keeping it gathered at his hips to make sure it stays in place.

"Essek!" There is strange comfort in seeing his brother here, if only because he thinks, maybe, Essek will at least understand what's going on. Or have a theory as to how they got here. Or... anything.

"Is it really you?" he asks, slightly more cautious.
thelyss: (pic#14464849)

[personal profile] thelyss 2021-06-19 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
It does sound like him, it does look like him, and even with all of the strangeness of Erku, Essek hasn't encountered anyone to not be who they appear. But it doesn't stop him from moving back a step, hand sweeping out between them with a rushed incantation. His eyes flash briefly, a wave of magic rushing forward that washes over Verin like a warm wind and dissipates immediately.

Nothing changes. It is both good and bad, but doesn't serve to settle the rising anxiety churning in his stomach.

His jaw tightens as he moves closer. "It is." Verin will notice that he is dressed quite differently than his typical mantle and well-kept attire: soft black trousers that stop just below the knees, and a simple dark long-sleeved tunic.

Another wave of his hand, and an illusion of much more appropriate attire forms over his brother, not so dissimilar from what he might have worn back home, but without the armor.

"Did you arrive with anything important?"
