[ The optimism might be slightly forced. It's less for Poe's benefit than everyone else's, he's always tried to keep his doubts to himself, knowing that so many people look to him for morale, if not guidance. No matter how impossible things might seem, he can't give up on it, and he can't let anyone else he cares about down either.

So he'll do his best. It wouldn't hold up all that well to scrutiny from someone like Rey, but she's busy thinking about the other facets to being here, and that's pretty distracting for both of them. But while he's still not entirely sure what he's supposed to do with all of this, he seems to have come to the conclusion that he's just going to see where this goes.

That, and he rarely backs down from anything when Rey's involved. It's not an ego thing, or at least that's what he keeps telling himself. He's just never been one to back down from a challenge, regardless of where it's coming from, and Rey seems to constantly challenge him in a number of ways. Sometimes unintentionally, sometimes he's sure it's very much on purpose. He likes that, honestly. As prone as he is to taking charge of things, it's good to have people who aren't afraid to disagree with him. ]

Yeah. It is. [ They don't usually dance around the obvious issue like this. Poe's used to saying whatever's on his mind with her, especially if it's just the two of them. Unlike Finn, who tends to try to be the moderating influence. ] Are you curious?

[ This is... better than it could have been. She's free to think about these things, and what she wants, without being pressured into it. He's used to it, he can take it, but he doesn't want that to happen to her. ]
