I'd say reach out to others first. See if any of them are both interested and maybe have an idea of where to set up camp already. It'd be silly to start a squabble over 'I found this first' if strange parties come across the same thing without talking to each other. Or if the building one group picks isn't as good as what someone else comes across. Pool information, then take action.

As far as I can see, we're not in any immediate rush other than to try to find a place to curl up before dark comes.
