TDM 008: A WALK IN THE THEME PARK

TDM 008: A WALK IN THE THEME PARK

00. Arrival

This time, you come out of the water, the Nameless Island's own inherent energy drawing people in. It's like being suspended between realities and abruptly pushed from behind through a rift in dimensions. It may make you sick, or that might be the motion of the ocean, lifting you to the surface and carrying you to shore.

Waterlogged and covered in sand, new arrivals will be greeted by robots who welcome them with towels and bracelet devices. The A5 card is already loaded up. Feel free to explore the Island, though there isn’t much to see. Most of the buildings are abandoned and in dire need of repair, and beyond the city lingers a thick fog that obscures much of the wilderness from view. Wander too far into this fog, and you will find yourself mysteriously looping back to where you began, your memories of what you were doing and how you got there erased.

With that in mind, it may be wise to stake your claim on a rundown apartment, a tent on the beach, or a bed in the “comfortable” new barracks. Your inventory will be found a day later, wrapped up haphazardly and delivered to each person's makeshift home.

I. SIX FLAGELLANTS

Welcome, one and all, to a thrilling new location! Robots have worked tirelessly to build, from the ground up, what can only be recognizable as an amusement park. You are just in time for the grand opening of Six Flagellants: Great Advagtures!

The Ferris Wheel routinely stops when lovebirds reach the top, waiting for a kiss - or something more daring! - before it starts up again.

Robots warn of the scary Haunted House: a dark building with wall-to-wall creeps, and hot and cold running chills. Flickering ghosts roam the halls, and you may find an eerily realistic Headless Horseman -- who bids you, "Come closer. Give me head," while pointing to yours. Hey, get your mind out of the... Nevermind.

The Carousel is a two-story affair. Nude figures with familiar faces lounge about, waiting to be ridden, and closer inspection proves that they have the faces of your fellow islanders. Hop on your favorite person and take them for a spin!

There are even Bumper Cars, which have the interesting effect of making one feel more aroused with every bump and impact. (It's randomized each time, so don't try to guess based on car color!)

What should be a similar ride, the Teacups, has the robots' madness written all over it instead. They have misunderstood the gentle spin-cycles for dangerous, dizzying loop-the-loops across a wide track. Some would swear that the ride has a supernatural invocation for fear. Others are simply man enough to admit they're afraid.

Lastly, the Tunnel of Love is not what you expect. Although flavored lube and guides to cunnilingus are on each fleshy-log-shaped boat, the motion of the ocean is quite soothing, and there's a pleasant floral scent in the air that causes a light intoxication.

Don't forget to try the food! Similar to the Street Kiosks, there's a ton of faire food: cotton candy, corn dogs, and the like.

Mascot outfits are available and those who wear them will be rewarded generously with credits.

II. LIKE A FIREWORK

The next morning, you receive a message on your device: You are cordially invited to a celebration of skinship at the House of Worship. Please do not dress for the occasion.

If asked about it, the robots will confirm that is not a specific holiday, but a simple joyous event. If you pry, they may even say that the Old Ones often made merry and partook in the pleasures of the flesh - and so too should you.

For an hour, there will be food and drink - alcoholic and aphrodisiac. Then, at the designated time, once the sun has gone down, clothes will be shed and a revelry begun.

As fireworks explode overhead, the different colors send the naked senses reeling:
  • Red: You are amorous towards the people around you. Yours is a joyous celebration. The Auspicious Acts you offer are happy and lighthearted, full of kisses and sweet nothings.

  • Orange: You feel bold and adventurous, eager to try something - or someone - new. Your preferred Acts may be dangerous or exciting, perhaps with more than one person.

  • Yellow: You feel reverence when you watch the fireworks, reverence when you look at your fellow people. You feel blessed to be part of the celebration at the House of Worship, and you make the Acts you complete into Acts of worship. You are all about the spirit of generosity.

  • Green: You are not here to celebrate. Jealousy is your lot. Uncover a new side of yourself, full of bitterness and resentment, and try an Act that treads the fine line between light and dark.

  • Indigo: You are proud to celebrate! Those around you are lucky to bask in your presence. You have a newly-minted domineering attitude that makes itself known, and your Acts are likely to be something where you'll come out on top.

  • Violet: These fireworks make you feel unusual - the opposite of yourself. You are different in all that you want to do, preferring Auspicious Acts that you may not have thought twice about before.

  • A group shower will be provided after the festivities wind down.

    III. MISTLETOE

Many cherub dragons can be found gathering together in the Greenhouse, working together to finish the cultivation of a new plant. They spend an exhaustive night decorating the island with the new greenery, which can soon be identified as mistletoe.

You may think it's sweet of them, but don't get caught underneath one of these sprigs!

Standing under the dragon's mistletoe will cause sensory deprivation - and of course, the only way to regain what was lost is to indulge in an Auspicious Act.

(You may choose whichever sense you like, or even choose to be figurative, such as "the sense of reason" or "a sense of purpose.")

    N A V I G A T I O N

doctorize: (I'm not crazy I swear!)

[personal profile] doctorize 2020-12-26 04:04 pm (UTC)(link)
[I mean... to be fair, his skills as a doctor are kind of shady and illegitimate, but it's fine, no one here needs to know that.

Or at least Danny was not planning on telling anyone and had probably had some kind of professional sounding pitch prepared, but the question has him momentarily forgetting it before he's even got the door fully opened.]

Ah... of course. I'm licensed as both a doctor of physical ailments and as a therapist that helps patients dealing with psychosis and stress.

[... Actually he is only technically licensed in the latter and does the former in a back alley handed manner, but... it's fine, don't worry about it. He offers a pleasant enough smile as he regards Akira at his door here.]

So then, what can I do for you?

[personal profile] curriculumachine 2020-12-26 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[Getting right to the point, he remains in the hallway until he knows whether Danny can help.]

Can you analyze blood?

[It's probably more complicated than general blood analysis, but Akira doesn't know anything about the technicalities or how things like that are done.]
doctorize: (oh fuck what did i do)

[personal profile] doctorize 2020-12-26 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[... Okay, can't say that he was expecting that request.]

I can... [Or rather, he knows how to and while he probably doesn't have the proper equipment for that yet, maybe he can talk those robots into getting it for him.] ... though I'd like to ask why you need something like that to be done here first.

[personal profile] curriculumachine 2020-12-26 06:34 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not... It doesn't need to be done.

[In case this man thinks he's dying. The explanation is sort of glossed over without much context, because he hadn't actually known what he was going to say here.]

My blood kills people. It was supposed to be a cure, but it's poison too. I want to know if it will do that here, to someone who didn't come from the same place I did.

[If there's any incompatibility in those from other worlds, or dimensions, or the aliens; whomever else may come into contact with it. He doesn't know what chemical structures it specifically targets or neutralizes, and if anyone could naturally have those compounds in their own genetic makeup.]
doctorize: (bad guy plays in the background)

[personal profile] doctorize 2020-12-26 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[Danny does squint a little at Akira momentarily because admittedly, he did consider the thought that maybe this guy was dying if he was asking for something like that. And hearing that other people might die instead from making contact with it isn't exactly much better (read: if it comes in contact with Danny specifically somehow, fuck anyone else really) but...]

Ah. That is a valid reason to want to get an analysis done, in that case.

[Can't say his curiosity isn't peaked now, so after a moment of thought, he steps aside to allow entry.]

I'd rather not be drawing blood out here in the hallway, so it would be best if you come in and sat down.

[personal profile] curriculumachine 2020-12-26 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[Apparently, Danny's not put off by the explanation, so maybe he'll he get somewhere with this. Akira enters the apartment, but doesn't look for anywhere to sit yet.]

What else do you need to know? I don't have all the details on... how it was done.
doctorize: (it's a nightmare we can never discard)

[personal profile] doctorize 2020-12-27 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
[The inside of the apartment is... well. Probably not as fancy of an office as Danny would probably prefer, but there is chairs to sit in, and a table that Danny has put a sheet over to act as a makeshift lab table in the event of dealing with blood or if someone is going to need to be laid out for a procedure that can't be done while having the patient sitting down.]

It's fine if you don't have all the details in regards to the how or even the why behind it if you don't feel like sharing. For now, the most important thing is knowing if there's anything dangerous I should be expecting here... more than the expected, I mean. Usually, when people say that their blood kills people, it's natural to assume that this is the case if it's ingested or comes in contact with any open wounds or one's eyes... but given where we are...

[He says, with a glare of distaste at the bracelet he's wearing, before he properly looks back up at Akira again.]

... I'd like to make sure that it's not, say, corrosive or something when you say that it kills people in comparison to what I know of toxins in one's blood back home.
Edited 2020-12-27 03:14 (UTC)

[personal profile] curriculumachine 2020-12-27 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
It's not corrosive.

[Akira wants to say his world is 'normal', but that word has no meaning anymore. He doesn't want to accidentally give any false information, so he can only go with the method of contact he's seen and known for certain was a pathway.]

I don't know about open wounds or eyes, but ingestion, yes.
doctorize: (context and content best of their kind)

[personal profile] doctorize 2020-12-27 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
Alright then.

[Danny seems to have found some gloves so once he's washed his hands in the sink, he gestures for Akira to either sit in one of the chairs or on the "examination" table. Though, Danny does fold his arms in front of him for a moment, frowning as he regards what tools he does have here so far since his arrival in this place.]

So, I do have one other question here before we begin: is there a reason you haven't asked anyone here if they have a means of analyzing your blood for you before now, or did you try already and they weren't able to help?

[personal profile] curriculumachine 2020-12-27 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
[Akira wasn't expecting this to be done right now, but it's fine. He chooses a chair, looking a little confused at the question.]

Who, the robots? Fuck them.

[He's not going near that hospital.]
doctorize: (and rest them for a while)

[personal profile] doctorize 2020-12-27 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[Okay, that actually gets a laugh out of Danny here that he fails to smother properly to maintain a sense of professionalism.]

Ha ha, fair enough! I can't exactly fault you for not trusting them with something like this, given my own feelings on the matter with them.

[It's part of the reason why he even wants to put this clinic together as opposed to just working at the hospital himself or something.]
Edited 2020-12-27 19:51 (UTC)

[personal profile] curriculumachine 2020-12-27 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[At least they're on the same page about that.]

So, no. I haven't talked to anyone else.
doctorize: (lined up while the votes flow in)

[personal profile] doctorize 2020-12-27 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I see.

[He nods, before he then speaks again a little more seriously.]

That said, as I'm sure you've noticed, I'm not quite as well equipped as the hospital here yet. Hell, even in a proper lab setting back home, it would normally take at least a few days before I'd have a better answer for you when it comes to analyzing and testing one's blood for toxins and disease. I don't know how long it's going to take me doing so here by comparison with what I have.

Even so, I'll still take a shot at it if you're willing to be patient with me here on this.
Edited 2020-12-27 21:20 (UTC)

[personal profile] curriculumachine 2020-12-27 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
That's fine. It's not like I'm going anywhere.

[The latter is said with a resigned sort of annoyance. There's a short pause, as if he's just remembered something, and Akira issues a warning that sounds more like a threat.]

Don't keep any of it.

[To synthesize other toxins or the like out of it.]
doctorize: (have paid no visits since then)

[personal profile] doctorize 2020-12-28 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
[At that, Danny raises an eyebrow.]

Do I look like someone who would want to use potentially poisonous blood from some teenager I just met today?

[Or at least Akira looks like a teenager... or maybe around Zack's age? He's not actually sure, but still, the point remains.]

[personal profile] curriculumachine 2020-12-28 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
Yes.

[Any doctor operating out of this kind of place doesn't get the benefit of the doubt.]
doctorize: (and so that's the reason)

[personal profile] doctorize 2020-12-28 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
[... Okay, valid, especially since Danny secretly is the kind of asshole who would do something like that back home, but as for here... hard to say. He doesn't really have any reason to do anything like that given that he just got here and hasn't made any enemies yet. Still...]

Wow, that hurts my feelings here... or at least it would, if I had any left to be hurt by a total stranger's paranoid ideas about someone offering to help them.

[... But, then Danny sighs.]

But no, I'm not going to keep any of it. I'm not interested in having something like that in my place of business for longer than necessary.

[personal profile] curriculumachine 2020-12-28 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
[He has a lot of reasons to be paranoid, but he keeps them to himself.]

Good. How much do you need?

[Not that Akira's going to keep track, but there's the implication he might.]
doctorize: (lined up while the votes flow in)

[personal profile] doctorize 2021-01-06 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I would say... at least two samples. That way we can do enough analyzing with them with as many parameters as possible, and anything that has to be tested separately from another type of test can be done. I won't ask for any more than that unless something concerning enough comes up during those first checks that would require further analysis. How does that sound?

[personal profile] curriculumachine 2021-01-06 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
That's fine.

[Nothing will probably result from the testing, at least not anything that would effect people enough to kill them, but one never knows.]
doctorize: (and lie like it's no sin)

[personal profile] doctorize 2021-01-10 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Alright.

[Danny then gestures to where Akira is sitting.]

Then if you wanna do this now, you'll need to make sure your sleeves are rolled up. And make a fist with your hand so that I can find a good vein in your arm to use here for collecting a blood sample.

[personal profile] curriculumachine 2021-01-10 09:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[He knows how this works, and he was very close to making a bitchy comment about that, but he also wants this done. Instead, Akira says nothing, sliding the right sleeve of his jacket up and making a fist. The questionable sterility of needles in this 'lab' hasn't crossed his mind, and he has no issues with doing this right now.]
doctorize: (I stained my hands)

cw: needles

[personal profile] doctorize 2021-01-12 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[If it's any consolation, Danny does take that sort of shit seriously so when he starts bringing out the tools he's going to need for this, they do in fact look sterile here. Danny even washes his hands first and covers his hands with gloves before he reaches out to touch Akira's arm, looking for the vein needed and once he has found it...]

Alright, hold still. This may hurt for a second, but it shouldn't take too long.

[Is Akira is the type to watch or flinch away at the sight of needles? Because Danny is watching carefully to see which type he is once he sticks Akira with the needle here, just in case Akira jerks too much in response before he can actually get anything done here.]

[personal profile] curriculumachine 2021-01-12 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[Akira watches, almost intently, and doesn't move much as the needle slides in. Just a brief tensing of muscles in his arm, and an accompanying hitch in his breath.]
