"I know." She murmured, just barely above a whisper and yet filled with a lot more emotion than she would have liked to convey to a man who was still essentially a stranger. They were words spoken from experience. She knew apologies did not bring back the dead - nothing brought back the dead to a state that could count as being alive at all; not even magic.
