It's more than 'weird,' it's coercion. And I told you, the machine is in charge. It doesn't care about any of us. It only cares about its goal. We dance to its tune, or we can't survive. At least, that's its intention. Hunting and fishing on my own has circumvented some of that, and Ashe cooks sometimes.
