As far as I'm aware, the effects are not quite that severe, thankfully. It seems to be limited to forgetting the time you spend traveling through the fog--or wandering lost in it, as the case may be.

Although..... you should be aware that you were here already at one point, before I arrived. Whether the fog has some influence on those memories or not, I couldn't say.
